I wish I had a scar, a bruise, or a cast. Something so others could know if I was hurt, or if I was getting better.

Post traumatic stress takes something from everyone it touches, and everything built to fight it only works if people can face it without losing more.
Every day, millions of people living with post traumatic stress, from veterans to civilians, face the same impossible burden: trying to explain an injury the world cannot see. They are doubted by employers, misunderstood by families, and forced to rely on memory and self-report to describe experiences that happen in fractions of a second deep inside the body. Clinicians treat them based on what patients can remember and articulate, not on what actually happened physiologically. That gap between what a survivor experiences and what the world can verify is the problem SIX was built to solve.
SIX is a wearable monitoring system built to answer one precise question in real time. Was that a post traumatic stress trigger, or was it something else? It answers by continuously measuring the individual's own physiology as the event occurs, without assumptions and without population averages.
What separates SIX from everything before it is that it is built around one person at a time. It does not compare anyone to a data set. It learns that specific person, continuously and privately, without storing a single identifiable record, and it grows more precise with every day of use.
The name
The company is Sixwatch, LLC. The device is SIX. Six is the direction behind you, and in military terms having someone's six means watching the blind spot they cannot watch themselves.
Six, or to have someone's six. Six in military terms means to have someone's back so the device watches your six. It's on six watch. It's on duty watching your back, your battle buddy. The person who helps you get through the nights.
Trauma trains survivors to watch their own six constantly. It is the place they cannot see. It is the place triggers fire before the conscious mind catches them, and the place nightmares build before the body wakes. SIX watches that place for them.
A fellow soldier holds your six so you can have some of your attention back. SIX is that fellow soldier. Always on, always reading the body, never leaving their side.
The inventor
SIX was invented by Chad M. Smith, founder of Sixwatch, LLC.
I'm not a licensed clinical psychologist, I'm not an engineer, and I'm not a coder. I'm a survivor who had the opportunity to step back, look at exactly what my struggles and pain points were, and spend the time to put it together.
We are not building a wellness tracker. We are building the first tool that gives an invisible neurological injury a measurable, verifiable signature, so that survivors can finally say, with evidence behind them: this is real, and here is the proof.
Dignity for the survivor. Connection for the people who love them. Objectivity for the professionals who treat them.
